Ingredients
  

For the Dough
  • 1 cup warm milk (105-115°F)
  • ¼ ounce active dry yeast (about 2 ¼ teaspoons)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted)
For Frying
  • 3 ½ to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Method
 

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add sugar, egg, vanilla extract, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour to the mixture until a soft dough forms. Knead for about 5 minutes.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out the dough and cut into squares. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan and fry the beignets until golden brown.
  6. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Beignets are best served fresh. You can also add different flavors like cinnamon or chocolate.
