Ingredients
  

Potatoes
  • 2 large russet potatoes about 1 pound
Cooking Fat
  • 2 tablespoons butter or oil
Seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika optional
Cheese
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese optional

Method
 

  1. Grate the potatoes and rinse them under cold water to remove excess starch.
  2. Heat butter or oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the grated potatoes and season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika if using.
  3. Cook until golden brown, about 5-7 minutes per side. If using cheese, sprinkle it over the hash browns in the last minute of cooking.

Notes
